It’s as green as a real lawn, without all the work.
It’s been scientifically proven that the color green makes people feel happier. That’s always been good news for people with lush backyards, but if you don’t have a plot of land to call your own, you might want to consider this burgeoning outdoor trend: AstroTurf.
While this carpet-like material — which is made out of vinyl and nylon — might make you think of your hometown minigolf hotspot, it can be pretty chic when used strategically. Case in point: This patio by Kristin Jackson of The Hunted Interior. After considering the dramatic difference a rug can make in a room, Jackson decided to embrace that concept with her deck covering.
When the fake grass is paired with black, white and natural wood, it becomes a natural pop of color. Even better: Installation is a breeze. Jackson ordered one giant piece, which she describes as the world’s biggest area rug.
Even a small outdoor area can benefit from this treatment. By pairing turf with a wall of live plants, space feels like a garden-like oasis. The natural wood furnishings keep the grass from feeling out of place.
